PICKING UP TRASH
To take care of the planet, we need to pick up the trash. It is very sad to see an animal choking on plastic and it really hurts to cut your feet on broken glass or metal. Some containers have chemicals that poison our dirt and water.
Picking up the trash can be fun if you make it a game. Label five reusable boxes “paper,” “plastic,” “glass,” “metal,” and “trash.” Ask several of your friends or family members to help. Give each helper, and yourself, a reusable bag and ask that they pick up as much trash as they can find. When everyone is finished, sort the trash and take it to your local recycling plant or sorting bin.
Everyone wins in the trash game because it makes the ground cleaner to play on, the animals safer, and the planet healthier.
See You Soon!
Geo Girl
Today we picked up many things. Fishermen had left their strings, bobbers, a beer bottle, plastic bags, food containers, surgical gloves, and lots of Styrofoam pieces. Our new friend Dominga had to take a rubber fishing lure from her puppy, Penny, who was trying to chew it. Penny could have choked. After a little girl’s birthday party, Little Sister and I found the mess that is next to the trash can and a plastic fork with cake still on it under the jungle gym. Yuck! We had fun picking up the trash though. It was like a treasure hunt discovering the things left behind and we plan to do it every time we visit a park. Will you help us keep the planet clean.
