Getting to Know You
PDF | DOC
Third-Twelfth Grades
(ages 8-18)
Before sending a letter by mail or email, have each student write a letter introducing
themselves to “Dear Friend.” Using proper letter-writing format, each student should
include a few details about their lives and interests. Ask that they keep questions limited to two or three.
Handout the letters in class a day later instructing the students not to reveal whose letter they received. After all of the students have written responses, they can hand their letters back to their new pen-pal.
* When distributing the letters, pair up students that do not know or like one another.
This will help the students get to know, and better understand, classmates they are uncomfortable being around. It may also help dissolve any animosity in the classroom.
